Frank Phillis
He was an apprentice leather finisher in 1911 and was working for Brewer and Hary Brewers at Bulwell upon his enlistment.

Frank Phillip was born in 1894 at Basford, he was the son of John a leather finisher and Caroline Phillis née Judd and the brother of Dora Phillis. they lived on Middleton Street, Radford, Nottingham.
His father John was born in 1859 at Leeds , his mother Caroline Judd was born in 1866 at Nottingha, they were married in 1892 at Nottingham they had 4 children, sadly two were to die in infancy or early childhood.
In the 1911 census the family were living at 40 Middleton Street, Radford, John 52 yrs is a leatehr finisher, he is living with his wife Caroline 45 yrs and their chldren Frank 16 yrs a leather finishers apprentice and Dora 14 yrs a scholar.
Lance Corporal Frank Phillis enlisted at Nottingham, o 19th January 1911, he was 17 yrs and 2 weeks old, he lived at 40 Middleton Street, Radford., he was a leather overseer,for Brewer and Hardy Brewers of Bulwell, he initially served with the 7th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment,. he was transferred to the Army Cyclist Corps with the service number 418, on 12th November 1914, he landed in France on 28th February 1915, he was killed in action on 31st July 1917 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Menin Gate, Ypres, Belgium, Panel 4 & 6
In Memoriam published 7th May 1918 in the Nottingham Evening Post :-
“PHILLIS. – Missing July 31st, 1917, now reported died same day, Lance-Cpl. F. Phillis, King's Liverpools, late Robin Hoods, dearly loved and only son of Mr. and Mrs. Phillis, Middleton-street, Radford, aged 23. A noble life sacrificed. – Deeply mourned by sorrowing father, mother, and sister.”
