Walter Henry Barton was born in 1887 at Grimsby he was the son of George a fisherman and Frances Barton née Humphrey.
His father George was born in 1847 at Graveend, he died in 1890 aged 41 yrs his death was recorded in the Caistor registration disitrict. Kent, his mother Francis Humphrey was born in 1845 at Skellingthorpe, Lincolnshire.
In the 1891 census his mother Fanny Barton 42 yrs a widow and washer woman is living at 116 Nelson Street, Grimsby, she is living with her widowed mother Mary Humphrey and her daughter Mary J Barton 18 yrs a domestic servant and son Walter Barton 2 yrs of age.
He was the husband of Dorothy Lucy Norman born 29th February 1884 they were married in 1913 at Farnham, Hampshire, they lived at of 2 Fish Pond Drive Nottingham
Commencing 23rd April 1917 his widow was awarded a pension of 13 shillings and 9 pence a week, at this date she was living at 91a Derby Road, Nottingham.
Rifleman Walter Henry Barton enlisted at Grimsby whilst residing at Ilkeston he served with the 9th battalion King's Royal Rifle Corps, he was killed in action on 24th August 1916, having no known grave hs name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme.
