Edwin George Carter was born in 1882 at Elford, Staffordshire, he was the son of William a baker and Mary Carter née Blount and the brother of William and James Henry Carter. They lived at 12, Earl Street, Waterway Street, Sneinton, Nottingham.
His father Wiiliam was born in 1852 at Ledbury, Herefordshire, his mother Mary Blount was born in 1856 at Elford, Staffordshire, they were married on 7th November 1876 at Elford, Staffordshire, they went on to have 5 children.
In the 1901 census the family are living at 12 Earl Street, Waterway Street, Nottingham.
Private Edwin George Carter served in the South African Campaign 1899 to 1903 and re-enlisted 14th June 1908 at Chilwell, Nottingham into the 4th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.
He went to France on 23rd December 1917 and joined the 2/5th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment. Killed in action, 21st March 1918, whilst holding the line near Noreuil, France on the opening day of the German Spring Offensive or (Kaiserschlact)
