William Henry Mellors
He was a carter, ironmomnger in 1901. He became a professional soldier and was serving in Chakatra United Provinces, India in 1911 with 4th Bn King's Royal Rifle Corps.

William Henry Mellors was born on 7th May 1880 at Mansfield, he was the son of Thomas a hospital poret and the late Mary Ann Mellors née Oscroft and the brother of George Frederick, Miriam, Hannah, Jane and Thomas Mellors
His father Thomas was born in 1851 at Mansfield, his mother Mary Ann Oscroft was born in 1857 Mansfield she died in 1913 aged 56 yrs, they were married in 1878 at Mansfield, they went on to have 9 children, sadly three died in infancy or early childhood.
In 1891, they lived at 56, Newgate Lane, Mansfield Nottinghamshire and in 1901 at 25, Gladstone Street, Rainworth, near Mansfield.
In the 1911 census the family are living at 25 Gladstone Street, Mansfield, Thomas 6o yrs is a hospital porter, he is living with his wife Mary Ann 54 yrs and their children William Henry 30 yrs a time keeper, Hannah 21 yrs, no occupation Jane 19 yrs a cotton twist hand and Tom Mellors 13 yrs a grocers errand boy.
He was the husband of Mabel Elizabeth (née Needham, later Claxton) Mellors.
Segeant William Henry Mellors enlisted at Chilwell Nottinghamshire he served with the 4th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he died on 1th October 1914 at North Shiels Military hospital of heart disease. He is buried at Tynemouth (Preston Cemetery), Grave Reference: K C 12130
