Family history

Herbert ' Bert' Lee was born in 1895 at Salford, he was the son of George Edmund a grocers assistant and Annie Annis Lee née Haskard of Pym Street, St Ann's Well Road, Nottingham.

His father George Lee was born in 1869 at Nottingham, his mother Annie Annis Haskard was born in 1871 also at Nottingham, they were married on 26th December 1892 at St Matthews Church Nottingham, they went on to have 8 children,William Edward, Laura, Gladys, Irene, Doris and Reginald Lee.

In the 1911, census the family were living at 107, Pym Street, St Ann's Well Road, Nottingham, George 42 yrs is a grocers assistant, he is living with his wife Annie 40 yrs and their children, William Edward 17 yrs an apprentice brass finisher, Bertie 16 yrs an errand boy, Laura 13 yrs, Gladys 11 years,Irene 8 years, Doris 3 yrs, Harold 2 yrs and Reginald 5 months of age.

Military history

Private Herbert Lee enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 1/7th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment he died on 30th March 1916 and is buried at Ecoivres Military Cemetery, Mont-St. Eloi, France. Plot 1. Row C. Grave 6.
