William George Lacey was born in 1895 in Arentina, he lived at 281 Radford Boulevard, Radford, Nottingham.
He was the son of William Lacey and Martha Lacey née Brooks, of Bingham,
His father William was born in 1861 at Keyworth, his mother Martha Brooks was born in 1860, they were married in 1885 their marriage was recorded in the Bingham registration disitrict, they went on to have 5 children, Charles Frederick born 1886 at Canada, Luis Lawrence born 1887 at Montreal, Canada, Eustace Leonard born 1888 in England, Henry Cecil born 1892 Buenos Aires, Arentina and William George born 1895 at Argentina.
The family appear on the 1895 census living in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
His father William died on 14th December 1932 in Enland his obtiuary was published on 14th December 1932 in Buenos Aires, it states :-
' Word was today received here today that William Lacey father of the Lacey brothers famous Argentine Polists had died in England. Lacey was known as the father of Argentine Polo, He introduced the game to Argentina when he taught his sons to play and they in turn won world wide fame for the game as played here.'
Second Lieutenant William George Lacey enlisted at London on 14th December 1914, giving his address as 281 Radford, Boulevard, Nottingham, he was 19 yrs and 5 months old, his next of kin was his father William who was living at Buenos Aires, Argentina.
He was posted to the Army Service Corps Remounts Section and joined them at Woolwich on 16th December 1914, he went to France on 21st July 1914, he was discharged to a commission on 30th September 1915 and remained with the Army Service Corps
He later transfreed to the Royal Air Force on 25th July 1918 where he was an observer he served with 27th Squadron, he was reported missing in action later confirmed as killed in action on 4th November 1918 he is buried at Thivenelle Churchyard, France.
Inscription on headstone in churchyard: 'Lieut William George Lacey, died in France Nov 4th 1918. Greater love hath no man than this that a man lay down his life for another.'Buried Thivencelle Churchyard in the south-east part
