Family history

William Brett was born in 1898 at Nottingham, he was the son of Charles a slaters labourer and Eliza Brett and the brother of Ethel (later Rowley), Charles, John (died 15th June 1918) and Albert Brett.

His father Charles was born in 1873 at Nottingham, his mother Eliza was born in 1874 also at Nottingham, she died in 1902 aged 29 yrs, they had children Charles born 1899, John born 1898 and Albert born 1902.

In 1901 they lived at 8, Bellar Gate, Nottingham.

In 1911, the family are living at 13 Bellar Gate Nottingham they are living with his grandparents Nicholas and Maria Brett and other family members, Charles is 14 yrs and a painter, Albert is 9 yrs and John is 12 yrs of age.

Military history

Private William Brett enlisted at Derby he served with the 11th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he was killed in action on 9th October 1918, he is buried at Busigny Comunal Cemetery Extension, France.

His brother Private John Brett also served during the Great War in the 17th battalion Machine Guns Corps he died on 15th June 1918
