Albert Edward Bromhead was born in 1897 at Nottingham, he was the son of Albert a general labourer and Mary Hannah Bromhead née Leatherland and the brother of Hilda (1898-1900), Gladys (1902-1947), Eunice May (1904-1955), Ernest (1907-1969), Leslie (1910-1989), Hida (1914-2011) and Frank (1915-1918) Bromhead.
His father Albert was born in 1867 at Silesby, Leicestershire, his mother Mary Hannah Leatherland was born in 1875 at Bulwell they were married on 5th December 1896 at St John's Church, Bulwell, they went on to have 7 children sadly two died in infancy or early childhood.
In the 1911 census the family lived at 29, Linden Street, Dame Agnes Street, St Ann's Nottingham. Albert 44 yrs is a general labourer, he is living with his wife Mary Hannah 36 yrs and their 4 chldren including Albert Edward 14 yrs a boot repairers errand boy.
Acting Bombardier Albert Edward Bromhead, enlisted on 11th March 1915 at Nottingham, giving his address as 29 Linden Street, Woodborough Road, he gave his age as 19 yrs and was a book shop assistant, his next of kin was his father Albert of the same address, he was posted to the Royal Field Artillery. He landed in France on 8th January 1916. He was demobilised from the Army on 31st March 1920.
He died in August 1920 and is buried at Wilford Hill Cemetery, Nottingham.
Bromhead's niece Joy Bateman writes 'He served in France and was invalided home following a Mustard Gas attack. He continued to be nursed at home, but sadly never recovered his health and died in August 1920. He is buried in Wilford Hill Cemetery.'
