Family history

Robert Wilson was born in 1896 at Nottingham, he was the son of Arthur a hawker and Mary Wilson née Pickard and the brother of John, Clara, Eliza, Henry, Louisa, Thomas and Ada Wilson.

His father Arthur was born in 1868 at Nottingham, his mother Mary Pickard was born in 1869 at Nottingham, they were married in 1892 at Nottingham, they went on to have 8 children.

In the 1911 census , the family lived at 2, Carey's Place, Coalpit Lane, Nottingham, Arthur 43 yrs is a hawker he is living with his wife Mary 42 yrs and their children, John 18 yrs a lace hand, Robert 15 yrs a lace hand, Clara 13 yrs, Eliza 11 yrs, Henry 9 yrs, Louisa 6 yrs, Thomas 4 years and Ada 1 year old.

Military history

Private Robert Wilson enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 1/7th battalion Sherwood Foresters Reiment. he went to France on 27th October 1915. Died of wounds 1st July 1916, in the attack on the German positions at Gommecourt, France, on the first day of the Battle of the Somme.

Buried: Tilloy British Cemetery, Tilloy-Les-Mofflaines, France. Plot XI, Row A, Grave 4.
