Thomas Alfred Roberts

Thomas Alfred Roberts was born in 1876 at Mitcheldean, Gloucestershire, he was baptised on 10th February 1878 at Holy Trinity Church, Drybrook, Gloucestershire, he was the son of the late Thomas Roberts and Mary Edith Roberts née Symmonds,

His father Thomas was born in 1840 in the Forest of Dean Gloucestershire, he died in 1891 at Walford by Ross, Herefordshire he was aged 51 yrs, his mother Mary Edith Symmonds was born in 1846 at East Dean, Gloucestershire, they were married on 2nd Apri 1864 at Bishopswood, Herefordshire, they had 3 children,

He was the husband of Eliza Tilbrook (born 1st January 1884 Sheffield) they were married on 7th November 1908 and the father of Sydney Cyril Robert born 29th October 1910, Berhta born 9th August 1912 and Leonard born 15th December 1914, he died on 23rd April 1918.

In the 1911 census the family lived at 38 Betts Street, Butlers Hill , Hucknall, Nottingham, Thomas 35 yrs is a navvy /labourer at a sewage works, he is living with his wife Eliza 29 yrs and their son Sidney Cyril 5 months old.

Commencing 23rd April 1917 his widow was awarded a pension of 26 shillings and 3 pence a week which was reduced to 22 shillings and 11 pence on 24th April 1918 at this date his widow was living care of Mrs Robert Tell Place, Alfred Road,Brightside, Sheffield.
