Family history

George Edward Wilson was born in 1894 at Worksop, he was the son of the late William a police imspector and Eliza Ann Wilson née Rudd and the brother of Ann, Florence E, Charles, Nelly, Kate and John Wilson of Church Avenue, Arnold.

The family moved to Arnold 1894-95 and in 1901 they lived on Front Street. His father was the Police Inspector for Arnold. George had moved to Sheffield by 1911.

His father William Wilson was born in 1849 at Bourne, Lincolnshire, he died in 1903 he was 54 years of age, his mother Eliza Ann Rudd was born in 1856 at Sheffield, they were married on 2nd December 1890 at St John's Church, Worksop, they had 4 children, sadly 1 died in infancy or early childhood.

In the 1911 census his widowed mother was living at 53 Providence Place, Walkley Sheffield his mother Eliza 55 yrs is living with her children, George Wilson 17 yrs a file handler, Kate 14 yrs a nursemaid and John 12 yrs a scholar.

Military history

Private George Edward Wilson enlisted at Sheffield whilst residing at Walkley, Sheffield, he served with the 2nd Bn South Wales Borderers, he was formerly with the Royal Army Medical Corps, He survived Gallipoli but died of wounds in France on 7th April 1916 and is buried at Mesnil Ridge Cemetery, Mesni-Martinsart Grave Reference: B7
