George Grimditch was born on 25th May 1896 at Wimbledon he was the son of Richard a basket maker and Ada Grimditch née Goodridge and the brother of Richard, Ada, Rosie and Albert Grimditch.
His father Richard was born in 1872 at Basford, his mother Ada was born in 1876 at Pitts Deep, Hampshire, they were married in 1899 at Kingston, Surrey.
In the 1911 census the family lived on Shropshire Street, Daybrook Nottinghamshire Richard 39 yrs is a basket maker, he is living with his wife Ada 35 yrs and their children, George 16 yrs a pony driver coal miner, Richard 10 yrs, Ada 9 yrs, Rosei 5 yrs and Albert 3 yrs old.
The family emigrated to Canada arriving on 19th June 1914 at Quebec, they lived at Stratford, Ontario.
Private George Grimditch enlisted on 26th April 1916 at Stratford, Ontario, Canada, giving his age as 20 yrs and 11 months, his address as 201 Queen Street, Stratford, Perth, Ontario, his next of kin was his mother Ada of the same address, he was a machinist. He was posted to the 18th battalion, Canadian Infantry. He died of wounds on 28th June 1917 and is buried at Barlin Communal Cemetery Extension, near Noux-les-Mines Grave Reference: III C 46
