John Thomas Rowley (junior) was born in 1899 at Kimberley he was the son of John Thomas Rowley (senior) a coal miner hewer and the late Lucy Ann Rowley née Robinson,
His father John Thomas Rowley (senior) was born in 1863 at Rotherham, his mother Lucy Ann Robinson was born in 1866 at Nottingham, she died in 1897 at Nottingham aged 31 yrs, they were married on 12th May 1883 at the registry office at Basford, they had 7 children. he was the brother of Ada, Albert, Charlotte, Maria, May and Joseph Rowley.
In 1901 they lived at 75 Kimberley Yard, Kimberley. The family later lived at of 12, Bromley Place, Angel Row, Nottingham.
In the 1911 census his family are living at 7 Union Street, Nottingham, John Thomas 46 yrs is a coal miner, he is living with his son Albert 22 yrs a coal miner and May 15 yrs assisting at home.
John Thomas (junior) has left the family home by 1908 when he enlisted into the Army.
at the time of his death his next of kin was his sister Maria of 4 Richmond Buildings,Dean Street, London.
Lance Corporal John Thomas Rowley enlisted at Nottingham on 22nd April 1908 giving his age as 19 yrs and 7 months he was a coal miner, he was posted to the Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He was promotedtoLance Corporal on 15th April 1915 he died on 9th May 1915 aged 26 yrs, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Ploegsteert Memorial, Panel 7,Belgium.
