Robert Clifton

Robert Clifton was born in 1885 at Kimberley, he was the son of John Sison and Hannah Clifton née Soar of 2 Church Street Kimberley Nottinghamshire.

John Sison was born in 1854 at Moorgreen, Nottinghamshire, his mother Hannah Soar was born in 1856 at Kimberley, they were married on 29th February 1876 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district, they went on to have 9 children.

In the 1901 census the family are living at49 Church Hill, High Street, Kimberley John 47 yrs is a coal miner he is living withhis wifeHannah 45 yrs and their 7 children including Albert 14 yrs a coal miner ganger and Robert 15 yrs a coal miner ganger.He was the son of John and Hannah Clifton and the brother of Hannah, Albert, Samuel, Joseph, James and Elsie Clifton.

He was the husband of Mary Elizabeth Cooper) (born 12th August 1886) they were married on 14th September 1907 at Holy Trinity Church, Kimberley and the father of Gladys born 10th November 1907, Robert Alfred born 18th December 1909, Leonard born 12th January 1912, Cecil born 28th October 1914 and Albert Clifton born 28th January 1916, They were living at 13 The Avenue, New Village, Bentley, Yorkshire

In the 1911 census the family were living at 13 The Avenue, Bentley, Doncaster, Robert 26 yrs is a stone mason, he is living with his wife Mary Elizabeth 25 yrs and their children, Gladys 3 yrs and Robert Alfred 1 year old.
