He was the son of Charles and Emma Clarke and the borther of Alma Pretoria and William Clarke. In 1911 they lived at 4 Forest Place, New Lenton Nottingham.
He enlisted at Nottingham 24/8/1914 standing 5'3" and weighing 105lbs. He suffered a gunshot wound to the scalp 14/9/1916. He was promoted lance corporal 1/7/1917, corporal 9/9/1917 and to sergeant 16/9/1917.
Personal efffects returned to his family were: letters, photos, cigarette case, badge, stell mirror in case, birthday cared s and post cards.
