Family history

William Soar Buxton was born in 1891 at Kimberley he was the son of John Henry a coal miner and Sarah Ann Buxton née Soar and the brother of Mary, John H, Sarah E, Elias J, Christabelle, Christopher, Millicent and Charles Buxton. In 1891, 1901 and 1911 they lived on High Street Kimberley.

His father John Henry Buxton was born in 1852 at Kimberley, his mother Sarah Ann Soar was born in 1853 at Greasley, they were married on 21st February 1876 at the Basford registery office, they went on to have 10 children, sadly 1 died in infancy or early childhood.

In the 1911 census the family were living at High Street, Kimberley John Henry 56 yrs a coal miner banksman, he is living with his wife Sarah Ann 58 yrs and their children, William 20 yrs a coal miner loader, Charles 18 coal miner and Christopher 24 yrs a coal miner.

Military history

Private William Soar Buxton enlisted at Hucknall whilst residing at East Kirkby, he initially served with the service number 11833 in the Leicestershire Regiment before transferring to the Lincolnshire Regiment, he was killed in action on 9th May 1915 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Ploegsteert Memorial Panel 3
