Family history

George Robinson Steeples was born in 1896 at Walsey Bridge, Staffordshire, he was the son of the late George a farmer and Florence Steeples née Robinson and the brother of Frederick and James Steeples of 48 Vicarage Street Huntingdon Street Nottingham.

His father George was born in 1874 in Pentbridge, Dorset he died in 1903 aged 29 yrs, his mother Florence Robinson was born in 1871 at Sandiacre, they were married on 14th February 1895 at Snadiacre, they went on to have 4 children, sadly 1 died in infancy or early childhood.

In the 1911 census his widowed mother Florence 40 yrs an assistant teacher is living at 47 Vicarage Street, Huntingdon Street, Nottingham, she is living with her children, George 15 yrs a clothiers errand boy, Frederick 12 yrs a scholar and James 9 yrs of age a scholar.

Military history

Driver George Robinson Steeples enlisted at Nottingham, he served with 'C' Bty 178th Brigade, Royal Field Artiller he died of influenza on 28th November 1918 at 11th casualty clearing station, France he is buried at St Andre Communal Cemetery Grave Reference: I A 27

'Steeples. November 26th of pneumonia, Driver George Steeples, son of Florence Steeples 48 Vicarage Street.'
