Frederick William Whittle was born in 1885 at Bottesford, Leicestershire, he was the son of James a dairy produce salesman and Elizabeth Whittle née Frost and the brother of Walter and Marion Whittle.
His father James was born in 1851 at Thorpe Arnold, Leicestershire, his mother Elizabeth Frost was born in 1851 at Waltham, Leicestershire, they were married on 15th May 1869 at St Marys, Church, Nottingham they had 8 children, sadly 5 were to die in infancy or early childhood.
In the 1901 census the famly lived at lived at 47 Goldsmith Street Nottingham.
In the 1911 census his parents are living at 78 Goodhead Street, Wilford Road, Nottingham, James 59 yrs is a late farmer, he is living with his wife Elizabeth 59 yrs and their daughter Marion 21 yrs a ckerk and typist.
Private Frederick William Whittle enlisted at Nottingham, he initially served with the service number 1620 in the King's Royal Rifle Corps, he later served with the 2nd battalion Oxford and Buckingham Light Infantry, he was killed in action on 3rd June 1916 he is buried at Zouave Valley Cemetery Souchez Grave Reference: II. C. 7.
