Family history

James Arthur Hallam was born in 1887 at Nottingham, he was the son of Thomas a brewery labourer and Fanny Hallam née Tattersall , of 6 Wool Alley, Barker Gate Nottingham.

His father Thomas was born in 1858 at Wicket, Leicestershire, his mother Fanny Tattersall was born in 1858 at Nottingham, they were married on 9th October 1879 at Nottingham.

By the 1911 census James Arthur had joined the Army, we find him with his regiment 1st battalion Sherwood Forester Regiment, he is 24 yrs of age and is in barracks in India.

James married Gertrude H Lee in 1915 at Nottingham, they lived at 4 Wood City Lane, Hucknall Road, Nottingham. (Pension record card)

Military history

Private James Arthur Hallam enlisted and served with the service munber 9306 in the Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he later Transferred to (256475) Labour Corps retransferred to (81648) Royal Defence Corps. He was discharged from the Army on 29th March 1919.

He died on 10th February 1920 of consumption and is bured at Nottingham General Cemetery, Grave Reference: 03280A
