Family history

Arthur John Thompson was born on 23rd Decemebr 1880 at Kirklington, he was baptised on 10th April 1881 at Swithins Church, Kirklington, he was the son of the late Henry Thompson a labourer and Phoebe Thompson, née Chappell of 36, Union St., Beeston, Nottingham, England,

His father Henry was born in 1855 at Carlton Le Moorland, Lincolnshire, his mother Phoebe Chappell was born in 1853 at Kirklington, they were married on 1st June 1876 at Swithins Church, Kirklington, they went on to have 5 children.

In the 1911 census the family were living at 82 Imperial Road, Beeston, Henry 58 yrs is a labourer, he is living with his wife Phoebe 57 yrs and their daughter Mary 28 yrs single and a machinist.

Arthur John emigrated to Canada prior to 1912 as he met and married his wife Ann Adam Law born 1891 at Aberdee, Scotland, they were married on 11th December 1912 at Thunder Bay, Ontario, they went on to live at 96 Melvin Ave, Port Arthur, Ontarioo.

His widow was later living at 214, Angus St., Port Arthur, Ontario.

Military history

Private Arthur John Thompson enlisted on 20th January 1916 at Port Arthur, Ontario, giving his date of birth as 23rd December 1880 he was 35 yrs of age, he was an engineer and lived at 96 Melvin Avenue, Port Arthur, Ontario, his next of kin was his with Ann of the same address .
He was posted to the 32nd battalion Canadian Infantry, he died on 27th June 1917 at Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada and is buried at Thunder Bay, (Riverside) Cemetery Ontario.
