Family history

George Marsden was born on 11th July 1892 at Nottingham, he was the son of Charles Harry a builder and newsagent and Elizabeth Marsden née Asling and the brother of William, Edward and Lawrence Marsden of St Ann's, Nottingham.

His father Charles Harry was born in 1856 at Newark, his mother Elizabeth Asling was born in 1857 also at Newark, they were married on 10th October 1882 at Nottingham, they went on have 12 children, sadly 6 were t die in infancy or early childhood.

In the 1911 census the family lived at 95 Dame Agnes Street St Ann's Nottingham Charles Harry 55 yrs is a builder and newsagent, he is living with his wife Elizabet 54 yrs and their children, William 19 yrs a stationary engineer, George 16 yrs an apprentice hairdresser, Edward 15 yrs working at a printing works and Lawrence 12 yrs a scholar.

Military history

Private 6248 George Marsden served with the Canadian Infantry, specifically the Western Ontario Regiment, during World War I. He died on October 1, 1918, at the age of 24. His service number was 6248. He enlisted on 18th September 1914, giving his occupation as a barber. He is commemorated on the Canadian Virtual War Memorial and is buried in Sancourt British Cemetery in France.
