Arthur Reginald Lewis was born on 4th April 1886 at Salford, Lancashire he was baptised on 9th June 1886 at Salford, Lancashire.he was the son of William Samuel Lewis a clothiers assistant and his first wife the late Marian Wixen of 19 Ryeland Crescent The Meadows Nottingham.
His father William Samuel was born in 1850 at Newcastle, Cardiganshire, married his mother Marian Wixen born in 1846, on 21st December 1872 at Salford, Lancashire she died in 1897 in Salford, aged 49 yrs they had 4 children, Minnie b1872, Frank Wixen born 1876, Archibald b1880 and Arthur Reginals b1886.
His father remarried in 1898 at Nottingham to Elizabeth Jackson Goldsmith born 1866 they went on to have 3 further children. His siblings were Augustus Charles born 1892, Winifred Goldsmith born 1900 and Doris born 1901.
In the 1911 census his widowed father was living at 35 Tootal Road, Pendleton, Salford, William Samuel 61 yrs a tailors shop assistant is living with his son Augustus Charles 19 yrs an insurance clerk, and daughters Winifred Goldsmith 11 yrs scholar and Doris 10 yrs scholar.
At some date prior to the outbreak of the 'Great War' Arthur emigrated to Canada.
Lance Corporal Arthur Reginald Lewis enlisted at Valartier,Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Canada on 23rd September 1914, he was 28 yrs and 5 months old, he was a salesman, his next of kin was his father William Samuel Lewis of Moose Jaw, Canada. He served with the 5th battalion Canadian Infantry, he was wounded in action , gunshot wound to head back and arm,he died at No 14 general hospital, Wimereux he is buried at Wimereux Communal Cemetery, France.
