Stafford Woodliffe Law was born on 20th May 1887 at Sutton on Trent, he was batised on 12th June 1887 at All Saints Church, Sutton on Trent he was the son of William Law and the late Maud Alce Lw née Woodliffe of 3 Haddon Street Sherwood Nottingham England.
His father William Law a grocer was born in 1857 at Sutton on Trent, his mother Maud Alice Woodliffe was born in 1863 at Alford, Lincolnshire she died in 1902 aged 39 yrs, they were married in 1881 their marriage was recorded at the Spilsby registration district, they went on to have 8 children.
In the 1911 census Stafford Woodliffe Law was living at 10 Melrose Street, he is shown as being 24 years of age and a fish monger he is living with his uncle Herbert Robinson Woodliffe 43 yrs a fishmonger and his family.
On 26th July 1913 Stafford and two of his brother, Louis Bernard and John Herbert emmigrated to Canada, they left from Avonmouth, Bristol on the ship Royal Edward and arrived at Quebec, Canada on 3rd August 1917.
Lance Corporal Stafford Woodliffe Law enlisted on 22nd August 1915 at Halifax Canada, he served with the Royal Canadian Regiment he died on 9th April 1917 and is buried at Thelus Military Cemetery, France.
His brother Private 477519 Louis Bernard Law of the Royal Canadian Regimet, also served and was killed in action on 5th June 1916 at Ypres, Belgium, he is name is commemorated on the Ypres Menin Gate Memorial, France.
