Fred Lacey was born on 7th July 1882 at Nottingham, he was the son of the late Thomas Lacey a railway car man and Charlotte Lacey née Winfield, the family home was in Basford.

His father Thomas Lacey was born in 1869 at Ruddington, he died in 1905 aged 56 yrs, his mother Charlotte Winfield was born in 1853 at Barton, Nottinghamshire, they were married in 1873 at Basford, they went on to have 9 children,

In the 1911 census his widowed mother Charlotte Lacey 58 yrs is living at 17 Ekowe Street, New Basford, she is living with her children Charles Henry 24 yrs a railway labourer and Arthur 20 yrs a general apprentice.

Fred married Florence Annie Collison (born 23rd September 1885 Nottingham) in 1908 at Nottingham,

In the 1911 census the Fred and his wife are living at 5 Rosetta Road, New Basford, Fred 28 yrs is a brewers clerk he is living with his wife Florence 25 yrs.

Fred left England on 3rd May 1913, he arrived at Quebec Canada

Military history

Prive Fred Lacey enlisted on 26th July 1916 at St Catharines, Ontario, Canada giving his age as 34 yrs and 1 month, his date of birth July 7th 1882 his address was 36 1/2 Page Street, St Catharines, Ontario, he was a machinist his next of kin was his wife Florence of the same address. He was posted to the 21st battalion Canadian Infantry. He ded on 28th August 1918 and is commemorated on the Vimy Memorial, France.
