Family history

Lawrence Albert Hardy was born on 18th March 1888 at Horninglow, Staffordshire, he was the son of the late William a joiner and Annie Hardy née Bennett of 24 Ladysmith Street, Colwick Road, Nottingham.

His father William was born in 1854 at Bulwell, he died in 1906 aged 48 yrs , his mother Annie Bennett was born in 1853 at Hollington, Derbyshire they were married in 1875 their marriage was recorded in the Burton Upon Trent, registration district, they went on to have 8 children, sadly two were to die in infancy or early childhood,

In the 1911 census his widowed mother is living at 10 Orchard Street, Mansfield, she is shown as Annie Hardy 58 yrs a widow, she is living with two of her children Percy William 32 yrs a colliery store keeper and Horace Edwin 28 yrs a railway labourer.

In the 1911 census Lawrence has left his home address he is a boarder living at 70 Highfield Avenue, Grimsby he is 22 yrs of age and is a baker, he is boarding with William Henry West 51 yrs a marine engine fitter and his family

Lawrence emigrated on 14th September 1912 to Quebec, Canada.

Military history

Corporal Lawrence Albert Hardy enlisted at Montreal, in Canada , on 11th November 1914, giving his date of birth at 18th March 1888 he was 26 yrs and 7 months, he was a cook, his next of kin was his mother A Hardy of 36 Bridlesmith Gate, Nottingham he served with the 24th battalion Candian Infantry, he was killed in action on 28th August 1918 and is buried at Quebec Cemetery, Cherisy, France.
