William Cooper was born in 1888 at Carrington, he was the son of Lizzie Cooper of 6 Sherbrook Terrace Carrington Nottingham.

His mother Lizzie was born in 1870 at Carrington, she died in 1910 aged 40 yrs.

In the 1911 census William is living at 18 Gauntly Street, he is 22 yrs single and a brass moulder, he is living with George Wareen 42 yrs a widowed lace maker.

William Cooper emigrated to Canada prior to the outbreak of the 'Great War.'

Military history

Private William Cooper enlisted in Canada and served with the 24th Battalion, Australian Infantry, he was killed in action on 23rd May 1916, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Ypres Menin Gate Memorial, Belgium.
