Family history

Edward Gee was born on 23rd December 1893 at Hyde Cheshire, he was baptised on 16th February 1897 at St Marys Church, Newton in Mottram, he was the son of Frank a forman shunter and Levina Gee née Cook and the brother of Frank Gee.

His father Frank was born in 1870 at Hyde Cheshire, his mother Leina Cook was born in 1867 at Staleybridge, Lancashire, they were married in 1889 at St Pauls Church, Staleybridge

In 1911 they lived at 23 Broomhill Road Bulwell Nottingham Frank Gee 41 yrs is a forman shunter he is living with his wife Levina 44 yrs and their children, Frank 19 yrs a labourer below ground and Edward 17 yrs a labourer below ground.

Military history

Private Edward Gee was living at Colledale, Wollogone, New South Wales he was a coal miner when he enlisted on 22nd February 1915. he served with 19th battalion Australian Infantry

Unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales, on board HMAT Ceramic on 25 June 1915..
Unit embarked from Sydney for Plymouth per the H.M.A.T "Wiltshire," on 22nd of August 1916.

He proceeded to Etaples in France on 28th of November 1916. He was detached with the 180th Tunnelling Company, when he was hospitalised for diphtheria in February 1917. He rejoined his battalion on 8th of March 1917. He received gun shot wounds in battle on the 3rd of May 1917 he died on 8th May 1917, he is buried at Grevillers British Cemetery
