Edmund Smeeton (junior) was born on 8th March 1887 at Nottingham, he was baptised on 19th November 1888 at St Ann's parish church, he was the son of Edmund Smeeton (senior) and Alice Mary Smeeton née Marriott of 28 Glebe Street London Road Nottingham.

His father Edmund Smeeton (senior) was born in 1848 at Nottingham, his mother Alice Mary Marriott was born in 1848 at Sneinton, they were married in1872 at Nottingham, they wenton to have 9 children.

In the 1911 census the family are living at 86 London Road, Nottingham, Alice Mary 64 yrs is married she is living with her children, Alice Mary35 yrs is a lace overlooker, Arthur 34 yrs a tramway fitter, Margaret 25 yrs a warehouse clerk, and Reginald 17 yrs an estate agent clerk.

In the same 1911 censu shis father is boarding at Erskine Street, Lowhill, Liverpool, he is 64 yrs married and is a general fitter, he is boarding with James Johnson 49 yrs a general labourer and his family.

In the same 1911 census Emund Smeeton (junior) is living at the Nottingham Asylum, Radcliffe on Trent, Nottingham, he is 24 yrs of age and an asylum attendent.

Military history

Private Edmund Smeeton enlisted in Australia he served in the Australian Cyclist Corps 5th Coy.He embarked from Freemantle Australia on board HMAT Seang Beet, on 18th July 1916. He died of fever at Devonport and is buried in Plymouth (Efford) Cemetery (grave ref. Church C.4958).
