Frederick Read was born on 7th September 1887 at Nottingham, he was baptised on 24th June 1895 at St Bartholomews Church, Nottingham, he was the son of Charles Henry a clerk to a blouse manufacturer and his first wife Kate Mary Read née Derrick of 453 Meadow Lane, Nottingham.

His father Charles Henry was born in 1857 at Nottingham, his mother Kate Mary Derrick was born in 1857 at Leamington, she died in 1902 aged 45 yrs, they were married on 12th May 1881 at St Andrews Church, Nottingham, they had 4 children.

Following the death of his mother, his father re married in 1907 at Nottingham to Rebecca Amphlett (born 1887 at Nottingham)

In the 1911 census his family are living at 453 Meadow Lane, Nottingham, Charles Henry 53 yrs a clerk is living with his second wife Redecca 24 yrs and his children Ethel Eunice 24 yrs a blouse machinist and Florence 3 yrs.

Frederick emigrated sometime before the outbreak of the great war to Australia when he became a carpenter and lived at Sydney

Military history

Private Frederick Read, enlisted at Liverpool, New South Wales, on 12th July 1915.he was a carpenter living at Sidney, Australia, he served with 54th Battalion Australian Imperial Force.and embarked from Sydney Australia on 8th Octbober on HMAT Warilda. He was killed in action at Fromelles on 19th July 1916 and is buried in Le Trou Aid Post Cemetery.Fleurbaix
