Leonard Langley was born in 1890 at Lenton, Nottingham, he was the son of William Henry a shopkeeper and grocer and Hannah Langley née Bell and the brother of Albert and Lois Langley.
His father William Henry was born in 1860 at Nottingham, he died in 1918 at Nottingham, he was 58 yrs old, his mother Hannah Bell was born in 1869 at Radcliffe, Nottinghamshire, they were married in 1888 their marriage was recorded in the Basford Registration district, they had 3 children.
Leonard Langley left Nottingham when he was 18 yrs of age he departed England on 3rd September 1908 from London destained for Wellington, New Zealand.
In the 1911 census the family were living at 34 Grundy Street, Nottingham, William Henry 50 yrs is a shopkeeper and grocer he is living with his wife Hannah 41 yrs and his daughter Lois Annie 13 yrs a sholar.
Sergeant Leonard Langley enlisted on 29th January 1915 at Cloncurry, Quuensland, Australia, his address was care of Mrs Bramwell, New Brisbane, Queensland, he was single and 28 yrs of age, his next of kin was his mother Hannah Langley of Salford Street, Nottingham, England his occupation was a horse tailer
He was posted to the 25th battalion Australian Infantry and they departed from Brisbane, Quuensland aboard HMAT A60 Aeneas on 29th June 1915. He was killed in action on 14th November 1916 at Flers, France. he has no known grae his name is commemorated on Villers Bretonneux Memorial, Somme France
