George Henry Dawson was born on 5th September 1878, he was baptised on 20th October 1878 at St Mary's Church, Nottingham, he was the son of George a coach builder and Ellen and Ellen Dawson née Coutss and the brother of William Dawson.

His father George was born in 1846 at Aberdeen, his mother Ellen Couts was born in 1846 also at Aberdeen, she died in 1891 at Australia., they were married on 5th August 1870 at Aberdeen, they had a futher son William C Dawson born in 1873

In 1881 they lived at 6 Queen's Street Back East Side St Mary's Nottingham

At some time the family emigrated to Australia.

Military history

Sapper George Henry Dawson enlisted at Brisbane, Australia , giving his age as 35 yrs he served with the 15th Field Coy Australian Engineers, he embarked from Sidney on 20th January 1916 on the ship HMAT Runic.He was killed in action on 3rd October 1917, he is buried at Boulogne Eastern Cemetery, France.
