Family history

Joseph William Perry was born in 1889 at Nottingham.

He married Emma Lizzie Dykes (born 24th June 1892 Sneinton) on 8th October 1910 at St Stephens Church, Sneinton, they had a daughter Winifred born 25th February 1914,

In the 1911 cenus he lodged at 103 Manvers Street, Nottingham with Frederick and Lucy Keeling and their two children Fred and Edith. Joseph and Emma’s daughter

They lived at 3, Rock Terrace, Manvers Street. Following Joseph’s death Emma was paid a weekly pension of 15 shillings for herself and daughter commencing 18th December 1916, she was then residing at 135 Pym Street, Gordon Road, Nottingham.

Military history

Joseph William Perry enlisted at Nottingham on 22nd May 1915.giving his address as 3 Rock Terrace, Mannvers Street, Nottingham. he was 25 yrs and 8 months old and was a town labourer. He served with the 16th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment landing in France on 6th March 1916 and was killed in action on 26th May 1916 he is buried in Guards Cemetery, Windy Corner, Cuinchy, Grave Reference III.S.11

'PERRY. – In loving memory of my dear husband, William Perry, who was killed in action May 26th, 1916. Duty nobly done. From sorrowing wife and child.'
