Family history

Arthur Hezekiah Fox was born in 1899 the son of Arthur Fox a colliery labourer and Mahalah Fox (née Ward).

His father was born in 1877 at East Kirkby, his mother at Newstead in 1879. Married in 1896, they had six children. Arthur’s siblings surviving infancy were Albert (b.1898), William (b.1900), Gladys May(b.1903) and Beatrice (b.1908).

In 1911 they lived on Roseberry Street East Kirkby. Arthur (senior) and Albert were pit workers.

At the time of his death Arthur was living a 43 Forest Street, East Kirkby.

Military history

Arthur Hezekiah Fox enlisted at Mansfield whilst residing at East Kirkby. He initially served (89492) in the Sherwood Foresters later transferring to the 1/7th Battalion King’s Liverpool Regiment. He died of wounds and is buried in Lapugnoy Military Cemetery, Grave Reference VIII.F.11
