Family History
He was the son of Charles and Hannah Palethorpe. In 1911 they lived at 25 Peas Hill Road St Ann's Nottingham.
Military History
He enlisted in London on 3rd September 1914, giving his residence as Nottingham and his age as 19. Posted to The Buffs (East Kent Regiment), he arrived at Canterbury barracks on 5th September 1914. He landed in France on 1st June 1915 and received a gunshot wound to his knee on 16th October 1915. He was evacuated to England on 23rd October 1915. Following treatment and recovery he returned to the Western Front on 20th January 1916. He received a shell wound to his right foot on 21st March 1916.
