Family history

Harry Sturdy was born on 28th August 1899 at Nottingham, he was baptised on 30th October 1899 at St Ann's, Nottinghamhe was the younger son of Frank a fruit salesman and Annie Mary Sturdy's née Clipstone two children his brother Frank had been born in 1897 at Nottingham.

In 1901 he and his older brother, Frank, were living with their parents at 1 Central Street, St Ann's.

In the 1911 census the family are living at 26 Plantagenet Street, St Ann's, Frank Sturdy 39 yrs is fruit salesman he is living with his wife Annie Mary 36 yrs and their 2 sons Frank 14 yrs a telegraph messenger and Harry 11 yrs a scholar, and the household included a boarder, Edward Amos Marrin (25).

In 1915 when his brother Frank enlisted the family home was at 13 Frederick Terrace, Nottingham.

Military history

Private Harry Sturdy served in the West Yorkshire Regiment (Prince of Wales' Own).

He died of pneumonia in the Clipstone Military Hospital, Nottinghamshire, and was buried in Nottingham General Cemetery (grave ref 19816 C).

Also of Frank Sturdy, brother of the above, killed in France June 28th 1916, aged 20 years. Till we meet again. Mary Jane Sturdy' (remainder of inscription obliterated by earth)

His brother Private Frank Sturdy, 1/7th Bn Sherwood Foresters, was killed on 28 June 1916 age 20 and buried in Bienvillers Military Cemetery.
