Family History
James Cotton married Ethel Gretton in 1903 at Nottingham. They had four children one dying in infancy. In 1911 the family lived at 6, Simons Terrace, Westminster Street, St Ann’s, Nottingham. Ethel was a lace hand and their children were Gladys Masie aged two, Beatrice Louisa one (she died in 1911 aged two).
Military History
James Cotton enlisted at Nottingham and initially served (83448) in the York and Lancaster Regiment. He later transferred to the Durham Light Infantry and then to the 196th Labour Company. He is buried in Taranto Town Cemetery Extension.
