Family history

William Jesson was born on 18th September 1886 at Nottingham, he was the son of Samuel a lace hand and Elizabeth Jesson née Underwood of 265 Windmill lane, Sneinton, Nottingham.

His father Samel was born in 1855 at Nottingham, his mother Elizabeth Underwood was born in 1859 at Nottingham, they were married on 15th April 1876 at Nottinghm they went on to have 11 children, sadly 4 were to die in infancy or early childhood.

In the 1911 census the family lived at 265 Windmill Lane Sneinton Nottingham, Sam 56 yrs was a lace hand, he is living with his wife Elizabeth 55 yrs and their son Ernest 24 yrs single and is a brickmaker.

He was the husband of Mabel Middleton (born 20th June 1888) they were married on 7th August 1911 at St Ann's, Nottingham they had children, Ada Elizabeth born 26th August 1911 , Lilly born and died 1913 and Edward born 19th March 1915 they lived at 275 Windmill Lane, Sneinton.

Commencing 15th April 1918 his widow was awarded a pension of 22 shillings and 11 pence a week.

Military history

Private William Jesson enlisted at Nottingham, he initially served with the service number 23010 in the Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derby Regiment) he later served with the 8th battalion South Staffordshire Regiment, he died of wounds on 7th October 1917, he is buried at Etretat Churchyard Extension, France.

His brother Private Ernest Jesson enlisted at Nottingham he initially served with the service number 23011 in the Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he later transferred to the 8th battalion South Staffordshire Regiment he landed in France on 1st April 1915 and was killed in action on 16th May 1917, he is buried at Etretat Churchyard Extension France.
