Thomas Briggs was born in 1886 at Nottingham, he was the son of the late Reuben a lace winder and Rose Ann Briggs née Priest of Basford, Nottingham.
His father Reuben was born in 1864 at Sheffield, he died in 1893 aged 29 yrs, his mother Rose Anna Priest was born in 1865 at Basford, they were married on 24th June 1884 at St Leodegarius Church, Basford, they had two furthe children, Elizabeth b1884 and William b1894.
Following his fathers death his mother went on to remarry Thomas Marriott in 1907 at Nottingham.
In the 1911 census Thomas Briggs has left the family home, he is a boarder 24 yrs of age, a colliery miner, he is living at 6 Kirk Cottages, Wallis Street, Basford, he is boarding with Joseph Henry Whitton 39 yrs a carriage cleaner.
Thomas's pension record card shows his dependant as his mother Rose Marriott 10 Cardwell Terrace, Cardwell Street, Basford.
Private Thomas Briggs enlisted at Nottingham, iniially served with the service number 20951 in the Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he was serving with the 11th battalion Lancaster Fusiliers when he was killed in action on 23rd March 1918, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Arras Memoral,
