George Beckworth was born in 1897 at Nottingham, he was the son of James a spring and paint maker in the lace trade and Eliza Beckworth née Quail and the brother of Louisa, Beatrice, James and Robert Beckworth of 63 Dickinson Street, Nottingham.
His father James was born in 1869 at Nottingham, his mother Eliza Quail was born in 1871 at Nottingham, they were married on 5th November 1892 at St Mark’s church, Nottingham, they went on to have 6 children, sadly one died in infancy or early childhood.
In the 1911 census the family lived at 32 Milk Square Nottingham, James 42 yrs is a spring and paint maker in the lace trade, he is living with his wife Eliza 40 yrs and their children, Louisa 17 yrs a lace jennier, Beatrice 16 yrs a lace dresser, George 14 yrs a lace dyer, James 11 yrs a scholar and Robert 7 yrs of age.
Private George Beckworth enlisted at Nottingham, he served with D Company 13th battalion King’s Royal Rifle Corps, he was killed in action on 9th August 1916, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Arras Memorial.
