Harry Wheat

Private Harry Wheat, served with 10th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derby Regiment).

He was killed in action at 'The Bluff' on 14 February 1916. The caption to a photograph of Private Wheat published in the Nottingham Evening Post on 19 April 1916, recorded that he was 'killed by a mine', presumably one of the mine explosions that preceded the German assault.

Harry has no known grave and is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial (Panel 41).

His brother Jack [John] also served in France.
