Family History

William Starr was born in 1887 at Beeston, he was the son of the late William a domestic servant coachman and Mary Starr née Bottomer of 31 Broadoak Street, Glasshouse Street, Nottingham. His father William was born in 1854 at Beeston, he died in 1899 aged 45 yrs, his mother Mary Bottomer was born in 1853 also at Beeston, they were married in 1872 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district, they went on to have 8 children, sadly 1 was to die in infancy or early childhood. In the 1911 census the family are living at 39 Gladstone Street, Beeston, Mary Starr 58 yrs a widow is living with her son Harry 21 yrs a threader and her married daughter Emma Grange 18 yrs and her husband Harry Grange 18 yrs and her grandson Harry Grange 3 month old.

Military History

Private William Starr enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at Beeston, he served with the 1st battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he was killed in action on 20th October 1917 and is Tyne Cot Cemetery, Belgium.
