Family history

Herbert Green was born in 1893 the son of James (b. Nottingham 1852) and Margaret Green (née Higgins b. Nottingham 1849). Married in 1870, they had ten children two of whom died in infancy or early childhood.

All born at Nottingham they were Kate b.1870, Henry b.1872, Margaret b.1874, James b.1877, Annie b.1881, John b.1889, Albert b.1891, Herbert b.1893, and Alfred b.1895.

In the 1911 the family was living at 20 West Street, Sneinton, Nottingham. Albert and James were bricklayers, Alfred a hosiery hand and Margaret a lace winder.

Military history

Private Herbert Green enlisted at Nottingham he served with the 8th battalion King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, he landed in France on 26th August 1915. he died on 30th April 1916 and is buried in Becourt Military Cemetery, Becordel-Becourt, Grave Reference I.K. 19
