Louis Bertie King was born in 1887 at Nottingham, he was the son of John a whitesmith and Ann King née Willerton of Eyres Grove , Windmill Lane,Sneinton, Nottingham. and the brother of Rupert Cecil, Elizabeth Gertrude and Arthur Ernest King.
His father John was born in 1854 at Nottingham, his mother Ann Willerton was born in 1853 at Nottingham, they were married on 29th March 1875 at St Matthias Church, Sneinton, they went on to have 9 children.
In the 1911 census the family were living at Eyres Gardens, Windmill Lane, Sneinton Nottingham. John 57 yrs is a whitesmith he is living with his wife Ann 58 yrs and their children, Robert Cecil 27 yrs a carriage cleaner, Lous Bertie 24 yrs a sand paperer, Elizabeth Gertrude 19 yrs a packer and Arthur Ernest 16 yrs a bottle washes.
Louis Bertie was the husband of Eliza Ann Gabbitas (born 12th June 1888) they were married on 30th May 1914 at All Souls Church, Nottingham, they had a son Kenneth born 21st February 1916. and lived at 29 CobdenStreet, Radford, Nottingham.
Commencing 16th December 1918 his widow was awarded a pension of 20 shillings and 5 pence a week.
Private Louis Bertie King enlistd on 9th December 1915 at Nottingham, giving his age as 29 yrs and 6 months he was living at 4 Woodland Grove Colwick Vale,Nottingham he was a wood machinist,his next of kin was his wife of the same address, he was posted to the reserves. Mobilised on 2nd June 1916 at the Derby Depot and posted on 6th June to the 4th battalion North Staffordshire Regiment. Later posted on 25th October 1917 to 1/5th battalion North Staffordshire Regiment he landed in France on 2nd May 1917. He was killed in action on 15th April 1918, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Ploegsteert Memorial.
