Alfred George Roberts was born in 1892 at Nottingham, he was the son of the late Alfred George Roberts a stone mason and the late Fanny Roberts née Allen of 356 Alfred Strret, Nottingham.
His father Alfred George was born in 1863 at Nottingham, he died in 1907 at Nottingham aged 44 yrs , his mother Fanny Allen was born in 1864 at Nottingham, she died in 1915 she was 51 yrs of age, they were married on 15th July 1883 at The Nottingham registry office, they went on to have 8 children.
In the 1911 census the family are living at 23 Frederick Terrace, Livingstone Street, Nottingham, Fanny 46 yrs is a widow, she is living with her children, Thomas 21 yrs a carter, Alfred 18 yrs a joiner, Fanny 16 yrs a finisher, Albert 14 yrs is a carter and William 12 yrs is a scholar.
At the time of his death his next of kin was his married sister Fanny White of 8 Park Road, Ilkeston.
Driver Alfred George Roberts enlisted at Nottingham, he served with 'C' Bty 173rd Bde Royal Field Artillery, he was killed in action on 21st March 1918 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Pozieres Memorial.
