Bertie Hoare was born in 1887 at Nottingham, he was the son of the late Henry Hoare an engine fitter and the late Thirza Hoare néé Hawker and the brother of Ernest Hoare.
His father Henry Hoare was born in 1845 at Chard, Somerset he died in 1889 at Nottingham, he was 44 yrs old, his mother Thirza Hawker was born in 1844 at Chard, Somerset, she died in 1914 at Nottingham she was aged 69 yrs, they were married in 1865 at Chard, Somerset, they went on to have 8 children.
In the 1911 census the family lived at 24 Ford Street, St Mary's Nottingham Thirza 67 yrs is a widow, she is living with her two children, Ernest 29 yrs a public house waiter and Bertie 23 yrs a leather strainer,
Private Bertie Hoare enlisted on 4th December 1915 at Nottingham, giving his address as 24 Ford Street, Nottingham, he gave his age as 28 yrs and 7 months he worked in a skin yard giving his next of kin as his brother Ernest. He was posted to the Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He embarked on 9th July 1917 and was transerred to the Labours Corps on 14th May 1917 he was killed in action on 28th March 1918 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Pozieres Memorial.
