Family history

Frederick Gribby (junior) was born in 1881 at Basford the son of Frederick Gribby (senior) a coal miner hewer and Harriet Gribby née Twells and the brother of Ernest, Harriet, Florence and Doris Gribby. .

Frederick Gribby (senior) was born in 1855 at Ilkeston, Harriett Twells was born in 1854 at Moorgreen, married in 1874 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district, they went on to have 10 children, sadly 4 were to died in infancy or early childhood.

In 1911 census the family lived at 19 Fox Road Basford and later at 41 Bobber's Mill Road (both Nottingham) Frederick (senior) 56 yrs is a coal miner hewer, he is living with his wife Harriett 57 yrs and their children, Frederick 31 yrs a brick maker,Ernest 19 yrsa painter and decorator, Harriett 22 yrs a blouse maker and Flory 16 yrs a lace mender.

Military history

Private Frederick Gribby enlisted in Mansfield, serving with the 1/6th battalion Northumberland Fusiliers He was taken prisoner 27th May 1918 and he died on 1st October 1918 of dysentery in hospital in Germany. He is buried at Cologne Southern Cemetery
