Family history

James Eaton Spray was born on 17th December 1885 at Beeston, he was the son of the late Alfred Eaton Spray and Kate Elizabeth Spray néé Mitchell .

His father Alfred Eaton Spray was born in 1860 at Nottingham, his mother Kate Elizabeth Mitchell was born in 1866 at Beeston, they were married in 1884 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district,

James was the husband of Sarah Ellen Jarvis (born 23rd December 1885) they were married on 31st July 1909 at St John's Church, Bulwell and the father of Charles Thomas, Alice, Arthur, Frances and James Spray.

In the 1911 census the family lived at 15 Keys Street Bulwell, Nottingham James E is 25 yrs and is a carter, he is living with his wife Sarah Ellen 24 yrs and their son Charles Thomas 11 months of age.

Military history

Driver James Eaton Spray enlisted and served with the 15th brigade Royal Field Artillery, he died on 19th April 1919 of influenza, he is buried in Cologne Southern Cemetery, Germany.

'Spray. Died of influenza in France, on April 19th, Dvr. J E Spray, RFA, of Bulwell, aged 35. Sadly missed by those who loved him. From his broken hearted wife, children, brothers, sisters and relations.'
