Willie Rippin was born in 1900 at Down, Ireland he was the son of George Arthur a tripe dresser and his first wife the late Mary Toplis of 84 Rutland Road, West Bridgford, and the brother of Edith May, Arthur Herbert and Irene Rippin of 84 Rutland Road, West Bridgford (both Nottingham).
His father George Artur was born in 1866 at Melton Mowbray, his mother Mary Topliss was born in 1868 at Ripley, she died in 1907 at Nottingham she was 39 yrs of age, they were maried in 1891 at Nottingham, they had a further child, Edith Mary born 1892 at Nottingham.
His father went on to remarry Emily Roworth Born 1872 at Nottingham, they were married in 1907 at Nottingham, they had 2 children, Arthur Herbert b1908 and Irene born 1910.
In the 1911 census the family lived at 26 Bruce Grove, Meadwos, Nottingham, George Arthur 45 yrs a tripe dresser is living with his second wife Emily 39 yrs and his children, Edith Mary 19 yrs a blouse boxer, Willie 11 yrs a scholar, ArthurHerbert 3 yrs, Irene 1 year old, also living at the address is Sarah Rippin 76 yrs she is listed as a relative.
Private Willie Rippin enlisted at Ilkeston whilst residing at West Bridgford, he served with the 5th battalion Yorkshire Regiment, he was killed in action on 27th May 1918, having no known grave his name iscommemorated on the Soissons Memorial, France
