Family history

David Baker was born in 1893 at Derby he was the son of Jabez Baker puvior and Harriett Baker née Rowley of Derby.

His father Jabez Baker was born in 1858 at Derby his mother Harriett Rowley was also born in 1858 at Derby, they were married on 27th October 1883 at St Pauls Church, Derby they went on to have 12 children, sadly two were to die in infancy or early childhood.

In the 1911 census the family were living at 118 Hacks Lane, Derby, Jabez 53 yrs is a puvior he is living with his wife Harriett 53 yrs a house keeper and 7 of their children including David 17 yrs single and a labourer.

David was the husband of Clara Baker (Born 17th May 1891) they were married on 3rd April 1915 at St Peters Church, Nottingham and they lived at 17 Guy's Terrace, Blue Bell Hill, Nottingham.

Commencing 25th November 1918 his widow was awarded a pension of 15 shillings a week.

Military history

Corporal David Baker enlisted at Nottingham, he initially served with the service number 55736 in the Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he transferred to the 51st Company Machine Gun Corps, he was missing killed in action on 21st March 1918 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Arras Memorial
