Family history

Vincent Mitchell was born in 1865 at Clay Croos he was baptised on 5th December 1866 at Clay Cross he was the son ot the late Robert a tailor and Mary Ann Mitchell née Emmerson of Nottingham.

His father Robert was born in 1832 at Edwinstow, he died in 1895 at Nottingham, aged 63 yrs, his mother Mary Ann Emmerson was born in 1832 at London, she died in 1880 aged 48 yrs, they were married on 2nd October 1854 at St Mary's church, Edwinstowe they went on to have9 children.

Vincent married Ada Rebecca Shepherd born 1868 at Nottingham, they were married in 1896 at Nottingham, they went on to have 8 children, sadly 5 were to die in infancy or early childhood, their surviving children were, Vince b1898, Elsie b1899 and George b1908.

In the 1911 census the family are living at 8 Orchard Street, Nottingham, Vincet 45 yrs is a tailors pressor, he is living with his wife Ada 43 yrs and their children, Vincent 13 yrs,Elsie 12 yrs and George 3 yrs.

Vincent died on 11th February 1919 at 24 Finkhill Street, Nottingham.

Military history

Sergeant Vincent Mitchell enlisted and served with the Manchester Regiment, he was discharged from the Army on 23rd September 1918, he died on 11th February 1919 and was buried on 17th February 1919 at the Nottingham General Cemetery.

Vincent is not record on the commonwealth wargraves website.

Nottingham Evening Post Roll of Honour February 13th 1919:

'Mitchell. On February 11th at 24 Finkhill Street, suddenly Vincent Mitchell, dearly loved husband of Ada Mitchell. Sadly missed. Sorrowing wife and family. Military funeral 1 o'clock Monday, General Cemetery.'
